Horses need exercise. This is an undisputed fact. Our horses graze on juicy, green pastures, are fed oats and muesli and also enjoy the occasional delicious snack. For an animal which was actually designed for life in barren steppes, this food is more than sufficient. On the other hand, the amount of exercise our horses get is sometimes not enough.
Modern horse management and nutrition therefore make it necessary for us to make sure our cherished sport and recreation partners get enough exercise. Long grazing periods are naturally an optimum balance to daily work in the arena or hall, and also for relaxation. But do horses really move enough on the pastures? Horsewalkers are useful helpers for that extra bit of exercise and also have the positive side effect of improving the horse’s fitness and condition. They are also of assistance when training horses, for example after rehabilitation.
Practical and strong. For a long time now, so-called tower horsewalkers have shown to be advantageous. At Röwer & Rüb, the Freimatic model has this design. The systems are very robust and safe. The drive unit is located at the top of the tower, where it sets the 2.40 m high arms for the safety grids in motion. The modular design makes it possible to set the arms at the desired length and to extend or retrofit arms at a later point in time.
The steel parts of the Freimatic horsewalker are hot-dip galvanised and therefore protected against rust for a very long time. Standard fence elements are 1.60 metres in size and have larch or hardwood infills. The securing tabs of the fence elements are all outside the track, which prevents the risk of injury from tripping. These horsewalkers are suitable for three to ten horses and are 13 to 25 metres in diameter.
The safety grids are a matter of taste. However, a study by the University of Göttingen has shown that horses feel most comfortable when they can see other horses and nothing makes banging noises. The Freimatic horsewalker can also be equipped with an optional track roof. The training units in the facility can therefore be planned irrespective of the weather.
Röwer & Rüb supply three different horsewalker types. The Freimatic shown here is not only extremely durable and low-maintenance, it also has an excellent price-benefit ratio.
